The Gathering
by Ronald Genise
At a gathering old friends to greet
Our lives so busy we seldom meet
Now scattered across this land
It feels so good to once again shake their hand
To catch up on lives both good and bad
Times that were happy and some that were sad
Most had pictures of grandchildren to boast
To our departed friends we gave a toast
We joked with each other how the years had take its toll
At our wrinkles and bigger bellies we tried not to show
In the arena before us we once rode proud
Now we are old faces in the crowd
We share the love of horses and always will
And hope to gather again before we each pass over the hill
